As the New Year approaches, we customarily review where we’ve been and consider where we are headed. However, the Rotary year starts on July 1, not January 1. So let’s take a modified approach, and see what’s happened the last six months and discuss where we’re going for the next six months.
We’ve had an exciting year thus far. On July 1, I suspect none of us was planning on changing the location of our meeting. Yet, we’ve moved – twice – and thrived.
The Rotary Club of Edmond has been busy in all four avenues of service – Club Service, Community Service, International Service and Vocational Service. Some of these have been highly visible, including the partnership with a Rotary Club in Fortaleza, Brazil, the Omelets and Pancakes Breakfast, Career Shadow Day and the various weekly programs we’ve had.
The next six months promise to be equally active. We have a great line-up of speakers. And our service projects continue. We have been sponsoring an Ambassadorial Scholar from South Korea who is studying at the University of Central Oklahoma, and will have an Ambassadorial Scholar leaving soon for Scotland. We are in the process of completing a District Simplified Grant for Ida Freeman Elementary School. Our club will again sponsor a Four-Way Test Speech Contest for area high school students. And, of course, we’ll host our annual Golf Tournament, which always raises significant funds for the various scholarships we provide.
All Rotarians know the Four-Way Test:
Of the things we think, say or do,
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
I believe our Rotary Club of Edmond has been fulfilling the Four-Way Test, and will continue to do so. We have much for which to be grateful. And we have much to be hopeful about.
Happy New Year.
