What do you know about the Office of Lieutenant Governor in the State of Oklahoma? Did you know that the Lieutenant Governor serves in place of the Governor when the chief executive officer leaves the state, becomes incapacitated or resigns? Did you know that the Lieutenant Governor serves as the President of the Oklahoma Senate? Did you know that the Lieutenant Governor presides over, serves on or appoints a designee to several state boards and commissions, including the State Board of Equalization, the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Commission, the Oklahoma Archives and Records Commission, and the Commissioners of the Land Office?
On January 10, 2011, Todd Lamb became the 16th Lieutenant Governor in Oklahoma history, and only the second Republican to serve in that office. He focused his campaign on job growth and economic development, and was appointed to the Governor’s cabinet as the advocate for Oklahoma’s small business.
Lamb grew up in Enid, played football at Louisiana Tech University, returned to Oklahoma to earn his bachelor’s degree from Oklahoma State University, and received his law degree from Oklahoma City University School of Law.
In 1993, Lamb served on the campaign staff of gubernatorial candidate Frank Keating. He worked closely with Governor Keating for four years, traveling throughout Oklahoma, across the country and even internationally, promoting a pro-growth economic agenda.
In 1998, he became a Special Agent with the United States Secret Service. The president of his Secret Service Academy class, Lamb graduated with special recognition. As a Secret Service Agent, Lamb investigated and made numerous arrests in the areas of counterfeiting, bank fraud, threats against the President, and identity theft. His duties included domestic and international protection assignments during the administrations of Bill Clinton and George W. Bush administrations. In early 2001, he was appointed to the national Joint Terrorism Task Force, and was later assigned to portions of the 9-11 investigation.
In 2002, desiring to spend more time with his wife, Monica, and their young family, Lamb left the Secret Service, and joined the staff of United States Senator Don Nickles. In 2004, he was elected to the Oklahoma Senate by the voters of District 47, which covers parts of south Edmond and northwest Oklahoma City. In 2008, he was reelected without opposition.
Todd and Monica have been married 15 years and have two children, Griffin and Lauren. They are active members of Quail Springs Baptist Church, where Todd serves as a deacon. He is also active in many civic organizations. Lamb enjoys fishing, hunting, reading, and spending time with his family.
Having known him for most of his life, I can tell you that Todd Lamb is a person of true character. He regularly puts Service Above Self and lives the 4-way Test. I am proud that Todd Lamb is my Lieutenant Governor, and am glad to call him my friend.
Please welcome Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb to the Rotary Club of Edmond.
