You won’t want to miss our meeting this week. We are in for a special treat, as our speaker is our fellow Edmond Rotarian, Randel Shadid.

Randel, who has been a member of our Rotary Club since July 1, 1994, puts into practice the Rotary International motto of Service Above Self. To say he is an active member of the community would grossly understate the case. He has been involved in Edmond city government for a long time, and served as Mayor of Edmond for many years. He is the founding member of the Edmond Visual Arts Commission and has led the charge for Edmond’s widely acclaimed Art in Public Places Program. He is also an active member of his church.

According to his Rotary classification, Randel practices Municipal and Real Estate law. For the past several years, he has served as City Attorney for the City of Guthrie. He also regularly represents builders and developers before city councils.

    In addition to his law practice, Randel, along with his wife, Dana, started Shadid Fine Art. If you haven’t been to his art gallery, you should make sure you go sometime soon. According to its website, “the gallery is a welcoming and comfortable environment where special lighting showcases nearly 100 beautifully framed paintings and sculptures. The paintings range in subject matter from striking landscapes to vivid colorful abstracts. There are also bronze sculptures featuring elegant female figures and children. Artists are from various regions of the U.S.”

    When I think of people who exemplify what it means to be a Rotarian, Randel always comes to mind. Because of Randel’s service to our community, Edmond is a much better place to live and work.
