Rotarians learn quickly about becoming a Paul Harris Fellow. According to the Rotary International website (www.rotary.org), “donors of $1,000 or more to the Annual Programs Fund, PolioPlus, or the Humanitarian Grants Program, or people who have that amount contributed in their name, can be recognized as Paul Harris Fellows.”

The funds raised through the Paul Harris Fellowship program make the work of Rotary possible. The purpose of the Annual Programs Fund is “to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.” Whether it is eradicating polio, completing water wells in areas without a reliable source of water, helping to purchase a vehicle for indigent juvenile cancer patients to have transportation for their needed treatments, or even helping build a park in a suburban setting, Rotary is an amazing force for good throughout the world.

Did you know that the Rotary Club of Edmond is a Sustaining Club? That means that every year, every member of our Club donates $100 to the Annual Programs Fund. Under the leadership of former Club President, Clark Jolley, we became a Sustaining Club several years ago. Being a sustaining club means that, at the end of 10 years as a member of our Club, you will become a Paul Harris Fellow.

The Paul Harris Fellowship program is just one way to contribute to Rotary. I’ll describe some others in an upcoming email.
