Labor Commissioner Mark Costello Visits The Rotary Club of Edmond
The Commissioner of Labor is one of ten Oklahoma officials elected on a statewide basis. Last year, Oklahomans elected a new Labor Commissioner. What do you know about the agency the Labor Commissioner heads, the Oklahoma Department of Labor?
Did you know the Department of Labor was created in the Oklahoma Constitution at statehood in 1907? Were you aware the agency has 86 employees and a $7.5 million annual budget? Did you know the Commissioner of Labor is responsible for the enforcement of those labor laws that promote fairness and equity in the workforce, including state wage laws, workers’ compensation compliance, state OSHA laws for public employers, asbestos compliance, child labor laws and various other duties?
On January 10, Mark Costello became Oklahoma’s Commissioner of Labor. A fourth generation Oklahoman, Commissioner Costello graduated from College High in Bartlesville and received his undergraduate degree in 1980 from the University of Kansas. He and his wife Cathy live in Edmond and have five children: Christian, Ian, Anna Marie, Caitlin and Kolbe.
Mark has founded several technology based companies which have resulted in scores of good jobs and hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue. A fiscal conservative, Commissioner Costello supports legislative efforts to reduce government bureaucracy, and works hard to promote private-sector job creation.
Please come this week only to the Downtown Community Center to welcome Commissioner Mark Costello to the Rotary Club of Edmond.
