Senator Clark Jolley Gives an Insider View of the 2011 Legislative Session to the Rotary Club of Edmond
Did you know that the State Legislature meets every year in regular session starting at noon on the first Monday in February? And were you aware that the Legislature must adjourn no later than at 5:00 p.m. on the last Friday in May? So says Article 5, Section 26, of the Oklahoma Constitution, as amended by state voters in 1989.
The 2011 legislative session marked a first in Oklahoma history. This year was the first time since statehood that both houses of the Legislature were in Republican hands while a Republican was serving as Governor of Oklahoma.
At the Rotary Club of Edmond this week, we will get an insider’s view of this historic session from one of our own members, Senator Clark Jolley. As you know, Clark was first elected to the Oklahoma Senate on November 2, 2004. He serves Senate District 41, which currently includes large portions of Edmond, north Oklahoma City and southern Logan County. It is home to the University of Central Oklahoma, downtown Edmond, Oak Tree Golf & Country Club, Lake Arcadia and the Lazy E Arena.
One of the leaders of the Senate, Clark serves as Assistant Majority Floor Leader. He has chaired or co-chaired several important Senate Committees, and this year also served as Co-Chair of the Senate Redistricting Committee.
Born in Oklahoma City, Clark attended Del City High School, earned Music Education and Political Science degrees from Oklahoma Baptist University, and received his law degree from the University of Oklahoma. He established a private law practice upon graduation from law school in 1995. During his legal career, he served as an Administrative Law Judge for the Oklahoma Department of Labor and was a Barrister member of the Robert J. Turner American Inn of Court.
Clark is a Past President of the Rotary Club of Edmond, a George Mikesell Award winner as the Rotarian of the Year in 2006, a multiple Paul Harris Fellow, and someone who has answered every call to service imaginable. If anyone ever asks what the Rotary Motto of Service Above Self looks like, point to Clark Jolley, who demonstrates it with regularity.
Please welcome Past President Clark Jolley to the Rotary Club of Edmond.
