The biographical information on his website is modestly short. A lifelong Oklahoman, sports fan and newspaper reader, Tramel joined The Oklahoman in 1991 and has served as beat writer, assistant sports editor, sports editor and columnist.

 

     Tramel entered the newspaper business at the age of 17, with The Norman Transcript in 1978. His first game assignment was the Lexington-Elmore City high school football game. He says he has enjoyed the journey ever since, and has covered virtually every kind and level of sports events, from high school wrestling duals and regional track meets to the Orange Bowl and the NBA playoffs.

 

     Having worked with members of the media for many years, I can tell you that Berry Tramel is one of the best. He is an excellent writer. He is honest and fair. He calls them as he sees them. And when, as often happens in the sports world, there are lots of conflicting accounts about a breaking story, you can count on Berry Tramel as the one who got it right.

 

     Berry grew up in Norman, and is a 1997 graduate of the University of Oklahoma. He and his wife, Tricia, were married in 1980, and live in Norman near their daughter, son-in-law and three grandchildren.
