Congressman James Lankford, the special guest this week of the Rotary Club of Edmond, was first elected serve in the United States House of Representatives on November 2, 2010. His predecessor, Mary Fallin, vacated the seat in her successful quest to become Governor. Lankford represents Oklahoma’s 5th Congressional District, which covers most of Oklahoma County, and all of Pottawatomie and Seminole Counties.
Before his election to Congress, Lankford directed the Falls Creek Baptist Youth Camp from 1996 to 2009. While James directed Falls Creek, the largest Christian camp in the nation with more than 50,000 guests each summer, the camp experienced the greatest growth in its nearly 100 year history. He has also coordinated mission and community service projects in Belize, Malawi, England, Wales, and Germany, as well as in many areas of Oklahoma.
By the way, did you know there is a famous hymn named for Falls Creek? The song, Wherever He Leads I’ll Go, was written by B. B. McKinney, a leader many years ago of congregational singing for youth camps at Falls Creek. The tune of that hymn is called, Falls Creek.
Representative Lankford serves on the Committee on the Budget, as well as the Transportation & Infrastructure and Oversight & Government Reform Committees, and is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Technology, Information Policy, Intergovernmental Relations and Procurement Reform.
James has been married to his wife Cindy for 19 years. They have two daughters, Hannah, who is 14, and Jordan who is 11. He enjoys spending time with his family, sport shooting, and reading.
Please welcome Congressman James Lankford to the Rotary Club of Edmond.
