What type of person serves as a District Governor of Rotary International? What does a District Governor do?
According to the Bylaws of Rotary International, a District Governor must currently be a member of a Rotary club in the district, must have been a fully qualified Rotarian in good standing for seven years, must have served a full year as president of a Rotary club, and must have attended the international assembly “for its full duration.”
The RI Bylaws also specify the duties of a District Governor. They include furthering the Object of Rotary, encouraging existing clubs and organizing new ones, promoting membership growth, supporting The Rotary Foundation, and visiting each club in the district. In District 5750, the last task – visiting each of the 39 clubs – means traveling from Weatherford and Woodward to Perry and Pawhuska, from Billings and Blackwell to Mustang and Midwest City, and even from Enid and El Reno to Edmond.
This week, District Governor Moush Tourian is paying his official visit to the Rotary Club of Edmond. Governor Moush is a great guy and a great Rotarian. I know you will enjoy getting to know him.
Moush was born on the island of Cyprus and lived there for his first 24 years. He came to Oklahoma in 1970 to attend Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU). After receiving his Master’s Degree in 1974, Moush returned to Cyprus and taught biology and chemistry until he returned to Oklahoma in 1976.
Moush joined Rotary in 1980. Hed was involved with various Committees and was on the Board of Directors before becoming President of the Weatherford Club in 2002. He has served District 5750 in various capacities. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of the SWOSU Alumni Association.
Moush and his wife Annig have been married for more that forty years. They have two sons, Rouben and Dikran.
Please give a special welcome to District Governor Moush Tourian as he visits the Rotary Club of Edmond.
